According to Ennis, Texas City Manager, Steve Howerton, "When Ennis community leaders began looking for a new partner, they wanted one with a vision of what healthcare in Ennis could be, not just what it had been. We wanted to find someone who was willing to partner with our community and make a true commitment to the area. LifePoint was that partner."
LifePoint Hospitals and the city of Ennis began their partnership in early 2002. "LifePoint looked beyond the challenges and saw opportunity," says Steve. "They immediately began to recruit physicians, invest in the facility, and add services. By the end of the first year, the hospital was profitable, something the previous owner said would never happen. The census for both inpatient services and the emergency room was up and we began to realize that the existing facility would be a limitation. The turnaround was so positive that in 2004 we began to look for new ways to continue our partnership."
Leaders from Ennis and LifePoint began planning the construction of a new facility. The result was a new 102,000-square-foot hospital that opened in July 2007. "We believe that the new Ennis Regional Medical Center is the first municipally-owned hospital built in the state of Texas in nearly 20 years," says Steve. "We partnered with LifePoint for this new hospital. Our community showed strong support for the new facility in the referendum for the public portion of the funding, and LifePoint has stepped up on their part of it. They have been honest and have fulfilled every commitment, and the citizens of Ennis are thrilled. We could not have chosen a better partner."
Howerton goes on to say that the hospital has been an economic driver for his community. "Since LifePoint has come to Ennis, we have added 2,000 new jobs and over $400 million in new commercial and industrial investment. None of this would have happened without LifePoint."
At LifePoint Hospitals, we are more than a healthcare provider to non-urban communities. We are a partner in the well-being and success of each hometown we serve.
