The Hospital
Parkview Regional Hospital is a 59-bed acute care hospital with full JCAHO accreditation.The hospital serves Limestone, Freestone, Hill and Leon counties in north central Texas, covering a 50-mile radius and a population of 40,000.A multi-million dollar renovation/ expansion project was recently completed at the hospital. Parkview Regional offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, including a 24-hr. physician-staffed Emergency Room, expanded ICU/CCU and round-the-clock laboratory services. In addition, Parkview offers a host of radiology services, including in-house MRI and 16-slice CT, 3D/4D ultrasound, mammography, nuclear medicine and echocardiography. The surgery department offers inpatient, outpatient, and same-day surgery, utilizing three surgery suites, a 6-bed recovery area and cystoscopy/ endoscopy suite. Rehabilitation services include inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational, speech, and cardiopulmonary therapies, as well as a wellness program. Medical staff specialties include asthma/allergy, cardiology, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, pain management, podiatry and urology.
The Community
Mexia enjoys a convenient location, connected to the larger metropolitan areas of Waco, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Bryan/ College Station, Tyler and Houston by two nearby interstate highways. Mexia is centrally located 40 miles from Waco, 85 miles from Dallas and 190 miles from Houston. With just a short drive to the larger city areas, families can enjoy outings to the theater, movies, dining, shopping, sporting events, concerts, and more. Limestone County offers two 3A school districts and a 1A district. Each has an established School Board and Superintendent's Office, which oversees the operations of the system. All schools offer many electives such as band, computer science, agriculture, home economics, foreign language and more. The student-teacher ratio is approximately 14:1. For individuals seeking higher education, there’s a satellite campus for Navarro College in Mexia. Top quality universities are located within a few hours drive, including Baylor University, The University of Texas, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Texas State Technical Institute and Texas A&M.
Recreation
Recreational activities for the entire family include baseball, softball, soccer, football, basketball, walking, tennis, swimming and two country clubs with golf courses. There are five lakes and parks in Limestone County for boating, fishing, camping, hunting, and water sports. Lake Mexia has swimming, campgrounds, shelters and public boat ramps for jet skis, boating and fishing. Fort Parker State Park, 485 acres of wooded and open park land, offers fresh water trout fishing, pavilions, playgrounds, recreation center, RV hookups, and several fishing piers on Fort Parker Lake. Lake Limestone covers much of the southern part of the county and every year is home to major bass tournaments. Fairfield State Park offers bird watching and wildlife trails, warm water fishing, and camping. And Richland Chambers Lake is a favorite place for fishermen from around the state.
