Dr. Lanny Copeland

Lanny Copeland M.D. joined LifePoint Hospitals as chief medical officer in August 2007. He oversees efforts to enhance physician relations and quality of care at each of the company’s 54 hospitals nationwide.

Previously, Dr. Copeland served as vice president, Medical Affairs, for a large hospital company. Prior to that, he was vice president, Primary Care Development, for Phoebe Putney Health Systems, Inc. in Albany, Georgia.  He also practiced medicine for more than 20 years in Indiana and Georgia.

Dr. Copeland is a former chairman and president of the American Academy of Family Physicians; president of the American Board of Family Medicine; professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine; and member of the Department of Family Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia.

In 2011, he was named the 34th “Most Influential Physician Executive in America” by Modern Healthcare. He was also previously named “Family Physician of the Year” by the Medical Association of Georgia and “Family Medicine Educator of the Year” by the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians.
