About Scott Mercy
Whether you knew Scott Mercy personally or learned about his life from others, it’s clear he was a special person. As founding Chairman and CEO, Scott represented the essence of LifePoint Hospitals and set the tone for the way LifePoint operates today. He had a personal touch that resonated with all who knew him and is still felt in our hospitals and offices today.
Scott wasn’t afraid to take risks. Right out of college, he jumped with both feet into his health care career, and by 1994 was the youngest senior manager at HCA. In 1998, he was named CEO of the hospital group that would become LifePoint Hospitals.
Just one year after LifePoint’s spin-off from HCA, Scott lost his life while pursuing one of his passions — learning to fly an airplane. Although Scott no longer walks the halls of LifePoint’s corporate offices, his spirit carries on in the employees who embrace his philosophies and strive to reach the high standards he set.
The Mercy Award pays tribute to those who follow in Scott’s footsteps and helps us remember the life of a great leader and friend.
